The Rock

this symbol recurs very often in the Holy Scriptures. In the Old Testament the rock is described as an eternal support to the man in need, a symbol of God’s might and justice that is always reliable on. The episode that is probably most remembered about the rock as a symbol is the one recounted in the book of the Exodus: being the Israelites thirsty, Moses bat the rock with his rod and water came out of it; the rock thus began to symbolize Jesus Christ, the rock of life from which the water of life springs. In the Gospels it narrated how Jesus changed Simon’s name into Peter, (from the Greek Petros, that means stone) thus symbolically bequeathing his teachings to found the Church.
